In Commander Randell’s opinion, there was no better way to start the day than with a fresh and hot cup of tea. It had been a good week so far. No casualties and no bad news from the camps in over five days, the new members of the local specialist team had settled in without conflict as far as Randell knew, and the weather had been pleasant for weeks. Everything was looking up. It’s too quiet, something is bound to go wrong soon, claimed his warrior instinct, honed in decades of serving. He paid it no heed. No need to ruin a perfectly good morning and a perfectly made cup of tea with dark thoughts of long days to come. He’d probably have all afternoon for that.
The Commander took a sip of his tea and sighed in delight. These simple joys always managed to lighten the grim darkness that always preyed on every Commander of the Borderguard. Those heavy burdens could break a man if he was not careful. Randell envied the soldiers for not having to carry burdens of such magnitude.
No no no, no dark thoughts. Just drink the tea. And so he did, watching over Castle Elaris from the Commander’s Tower. Being the highest tower and located in the centre of the castle, it offered a magnificent view for those who could appreciate the beauty of nature. Randell was one of these people. Drifting away in a pleasant daydream, occasionally nipping from his cup of tea, the Commander failed to notice the Seype heading for his tower until it landed on the window frame and started to twitter. Randell startled and was pulled back into reality, almost dropping his cup. Frowning, he reached out to the little bird with his hand. The little Seype dutifully stretched one of its legs and let the Commander untie the tiny tube that was attached to it. Randell took a piece of paper from the tube while the Seype hopped around for a bit, begging for some seeds. Randell absent-mindedly fed him a bit of grain from a pouch that he kept ready for these feathered messengers as he read the message sent to him.
Content, the Seype flew off to the castle’s aviary. The Commander was far less content right now. The good days had passed for now. This situation required immediate interference. ‘Guardsman!’ he yelled, and the soldier guarding his office entered the room.
‘Yes, Commander?’
‘Assemble the specialist team. I want to see them all in my office in one hour. I have a mission for them.’
‘Yes, Commander.’
The guardsman disappeared quickly and Commander Randell sat down at his desk where he started to write notes and messages vigorously. His now rapidly cooling tea had been forgotten and abandoned, just like the quiet days.

((OOC: So, what’s the plan now? Your characters have one hour of in game time to do stuff they or you want. Explore Castle Elaris, have a chat with an NPC or another character, whatever settles you into the RP. After this hour a guardsman will come to fetch your character (you can post this yourself) and bring him or her to the Commander’s Tower, where the actual mission will be briefed. Enjoy yourselves!))

"Kssssshii" She stroke for a last time with her sharpening stone over her sword. Alright done, next thing now. Packing the stone, she looked around. It was quiet. The early morning hadn't awakened all of the soldiers on the border side. Some stood on watch. Some where drinking some coffee in the dining room. Some where probably doing some private business in their rooms. She stood up from the table, she had sat on. Moving her sword up, she saw it shine in the early morning light. Innerly she sighed, all her muscles felt stiff. It wasn't her most beloved thing to rise so early. But she had to. Moving some stiff steps, she put away her sword. Her hand moved to her hips, where she laid it on her belt. She felt the rough forms of her gun. She took her plate and brought it to the place where all the dish was collected. Slowly walking she got some of here agility back. She left the dining room and walked to the halls of the castle. After a while she reached her goal. After three times knocking on the door, she raised her voice, "Louis, are you there?"

Last night was a heavy night for Enrico. He hasn't had much sleep, because of a nightmare. This nightmare was new for him. He didn't know the situation or the people. He couldn't remind anything of this and most of the time his nightmares where about the past.
So he got out of bed early this morning, what was very unusual for him. Normally he stayed as long as possible in bed. You never know if you have time to sleep the other nights. He decided to clean up his room. He was lucky to have a room to himself one. It is a very small room, which wasn't used until he came. Nobody objected against this, when he asked the command for this room.
After cleaning his room, he went to the dining room and get something to eat. He listened to some blokes, talking about the girls they met last night and how intimate they were. Enrico became quickly bored and decided to check on his teammates, maybe he could train with one of them. Otherwise he would go outside the castle and visit the forest.
He went upstairs and found Eli, standing in front of Louis's door. He walked to her and said: “Good morning Eli. Did you sleep well tonight?”

“Good morning Eli. Did you sleep well tonight?” Eli looked behind her.
"Ohw hi, Enrico." She stroke with her hand through her hair, suddenly afraid that she looked terrible sleepy. Why would he otherwise ask her how she had slept?
"I'm looking for Louis. But I don't think he heard me knocking." She wrinkled her forehead. "Can't go in, because of the rules, so was wondering which other place to look for him.. but I'm pretty sure, he should be in.." The castle rules were very strict, no women in man dorms and no men in women dorms. Louis slept on a big dorm, so no change she would get in. When it was a private dorm, it wouldn't be so hard. But with so many witnesses, the officers would hear about it. And the rumours. Always the rumours. Only because she was a woman. She couldn't do anything about it, right! Stupid man with their women obsessions.

She turned her head and said: “Ohw hi, Enrico.” Then she stroke with her hand through her hair and said: “I’m looking for Louis. But I don't think he heard me knocking.” She was avoiding his question, so maybe she wanted him to go away. But she continued “Can't go in, because of the rules, so was wondering to look on another place for him.. but I'm pretty sure, he should be in.."
“Well, I haven’t seen him.” Answered Enrico. “So I guess he is there indeed. Still asleep I think. And I guess you have never been in a dorm this big. It is terrible in there and that’s a reason I have my own place. But why do you need him actually? Maybe I could help you instead?”

"Hmm I don't think so, but thank you." She laughed friendly. Just be polite. "If you see him, just say I'm looking for him. I will search elsewhere." She turned and walked away. Why didn't he just asked if he could look inside? That would be friendly. But no men are monsters. Help her? Yes helping to embarrass her or to get her in his bed. Why else would he say that he got a private room? She ended up not knowing where to go. Louis had to be in his room. He wasn't in the dining room, so it was the only possible place. "Stupid men." Her face stood angry. To the womens dorm it is. There were a few women dorms. She shared her room with five other women. Most of them where kitchen maids or hospital helps.

“They really need better curtains.” As always this was the first thought F had in the morning. Every time at dawn he woke up because of the light. Well, there was nothing to do about it. F had a room for its own. Not because he wanted it, but because nobody wanted to share a room with him. Also, nothing to do about that. Not that he cared. As part of the morning routine he started to groom his sword, his partner through thick and thin. First he polished the blade with an old piece of cloth. Because a sword needs attention. Where would the wielder be without his sword? Nowhere, or at least not where he was supposed to be. No wielder should dominate his sword. As wielder and sword you should cooperate and trust each other, care for each other. As brothers. Not that he had any brothers. But he heard about similar feelings between siblings. Oh well. He started sharpening the blade with his own whetstone. Just in case of a mission. But who cares. A day of training of a day of mission, it doesn’t matter, at least for F. After cleaning the blade for the second time he got dressed and put on his mantle. Then he started his walk to the mess hall. Same old building, same old corridors. Even though being here for about a month, it was already routine. When he entered the mess hall it was still pretty empty. Like every morning. He got some grub and started to eat. Just a day like every other. A boring waste of time. Although today may be different. Like he cared.

“Bye.” Was his reaction. And he headed in the opposite direction. She is a strange person. He went upstairs and searched for a balcony so he could watch the surroundings. But when found one, he didn’t have a good view at all. The only thing he saw where the castle walls. So he got another idea. It should be a good training to get down here. He went back inside, looked for a rope. Unfortunately he couldn’t find one. So he went back to the balcony and after ten minutes he wanted some coffee. Fresh hot coffee and the only time to get it was now.
Enrico walked to the mess hall. When he entered the room, he saw F sitting at a table. It was impossible actually to ignore him, but maybe he could try to talk to him and discover the reason why he was a member of the same team as Enrico. The only thing he knew about him, is that he was obsessed by that sword of him. Enrico got some coffee from the kitchen maid, a very attractive girl by the way. Enrico did met her once before and knew she was a roommate of Eli, but that’s it. He knows that women have a bad position here and that they got less respect from the men. But that isn’t Enrico. He even killed a guy once, when that guy was raping a woman. It was an officer, but no-one knows who did it. Because the girl committed suicide when she was running away from Enrico, possibly thinking that she would be murdered as well. And Enrico did hide the body of the officer.
Enrico walked to F and decided that he needed to know more about this strange bird. Enrico started talking to F: “Good morning F, what are ya going to do?”

The battlements of Castle Elaris were too high. Vince hadn't liked much about Snowbound, but at least the battlements hadn't reached to his damn chin. Why did they need to be so high anyway? Prevent the kids from tumbling off the wall? Yeah, right. As if. Well, at least these battlements weren't even half bad to sit on. Vince was pretty sure he looked ridiculous right now, sitting on a battlement with legs floundering off the wall, like a child at the edge of a pool. But the view was worth it and the subtle warmth of the stone on his buttocks was not at all unpleasant.
Vince enjoyed the simple bliss of watching the sweat of his morning workout fall from his nose and into the depth where the wind would blow it to the south. The wind always blew from the north in these parts. Louis would probably have a perfectly reasonable argument ready to explain how that was possible, but Vince preferred to think it was the wind of oppression that came from the Empire and sought to topple the people of Avaren. Dramatic, maybe. But it helps you get through the day. If anything, he pondered with a smirk, the wind of oppression was going to have to try harder if it couldn't even blow a man of Vince's posture off his battlement. He then continued to philosophize about the deeper meaning behind that thougth and eventually concluded that the quote "a devout man's faith is like a pebble in the stream: the water pushes and scratches the stone, but all it does is polish it" was appropriate for the situation and that he himself was one damn handsome pebble.

His stomach was kind enough to remind him that the handsome pebble needed food to keep looking handsome. The growling of his inwards pulled him out of his philosophical mood in a rather unsubtle fashion and urged him to visit the mess hall. Vince absorbed the view from the eastern wall one last time and went on his way.

The mess hall was always rather empty at this hour but Vince did spot two of the newer members of the team. He decided to have a little chat, even though F talked to his sword more than he talked to Vince. At some point he had to budge, right? At least Enrico was a more promising conversation partner. Vince put on a bright smile and approached the rookies. 'Good morning, gentlemen! How has the day been treating you so far?'

F was quietly eating breakfast when he saw another newer member of the team. That dude had apparently decided to walk towards him and he even sat down beside him. “Good morning F, what are ya going to do?”
“I am going to finish my breakfast.” With this he went back to eating. But if it were a conspiracy another member of the team, one of the first members of this team and a rather short man, decided to join the conversation. Like it wasn’t bad enough that the first guy started talking to him. Like he needs to talk with other persons about things that don’t matter like what you’re doing in your spare time. “Good morning gentlemen! How has the day been treating you so far?”
“By waking me up at dawn, as always.” Finally, he ate all of his breakfast. No reason to stay there with the short guy and the nightmare guy. That dude could quite make a noise when he was asleep. At least the time F walked passed his door in the middle of the night. But who cares about nightmares? Or about spare time? You just have to wait or fill the time till it is over. Oh well, some training couldn’t hurt. “Enjoy your man-to-man talk. I am going to sharpen my skills some more.” With this he least likely to leave the two members of his team.

Louis stretched this arms and rolled around again. He should leave his bed, but he didn't feel like it. He was still half asleep anyhow. And it couldn't be that late yet, right?
'Louis, there is a girl knocking on the door for you.' somebody shouted. Suddenly, he was awake. He stepped out of his bed and changed clothes. Propably Eli. I don't know of other girls that would look for me here. He put on his coat and placed his goggles on his forehead. He left his bow and quiver in the locked chest under his bed. A lot of bunk beds were lined up in the dorm and around one hundred people slept there. Luckily, everybody had a locked chest to store valuables.
Louis walked out of the door, thanking whoever stood at the doorway for warning him. But there was no girl there. He walked towards the women's dorm, expecting Eli to be there. I wonder what is wrong. Probably her gun again. She isn't careful enough. He walked quickly through the long, dark hallways, with large stone walls on both sides. The wooden floor squeaked at some points along the way. They need to repair this floor. It could break easily. I hope nothing heavy will roll over here. He didn't meet anyone on the way there.
When he arrived at Eli's dorm, he knocked on the oakwood door.

She sat down. "Knock knock knock." That was a long sit. She stood up and walked the few steps to the door.
"Louis! My gun isn't loading smoothly. Do you have time to look at it?" She stept out the room and closed the door. After it she took out her gun and before Louis could give her an answer, she gave the gun to Louis.

Adanar stood in the kitchen cooking, like always. It was a brilliant day today, something was going to happen, that was for sure. Adanar whistled a happy tune he heard the day before and prepared the breakfast for the soldiers. In an hour or so they would come to eat, in a bad mood and susceptible to jokes. All he has to watch out for is a fist trying to smash his face. “G’morning ladies, how was the night?” a few mumbles as answers made Adanar smile even more as the maids got ready for the day. An important looking soldier walked into the kitchen
“Adanar?” Adanar glanced at him “That would be me” he quickly finished the soup he was making and turned around drying his hands “What kind of importance could it be to disturb me at this hour?” “The commander wants to see you in his office ” Adanar smiled “How long do I have to finish the food?” the man in front of him sighed “One hour” “THEN WHAT ARE YOU STILL DOING IN MY KITCHEN LAD!” by the look on his face Adanar could see the man was never yelled at like this “just kidding, but get out” the startled man walked away while Adanar laughed.
So it really was about to become an interesting day, great. “Mark, you have to take over this mess for today” The barely awake cook woke up immediately and shouted it was alright as Adanar walked to the mess hall, holding to plates of extra good food, it was for the chef after all.
“Hello my humble colleagues ” he sat down next to Vince “here you go, you haven’t eaten yet, and this is better than the other food” he looked at Enrico “G’morning too, did you get a call from the commander too?”

It appeared that F was up to his usual shenanigans. Vince waved him goodbye while fantasizing about cracking that hermit's skull in a fist fight. That would be easier than having a decent conversation with the man. He sighed. 'Mercenaries. Helpful in a fight, a pain in the butt otherwise. No wonder nobody wants to share a room with him. So Enrico, how d-'
'Hello my humble colleagues.'
Vince turned towards the source of this familiar voice and smiled brightly. 'Morning, cookie! Good to see you, old man.'
Adanar took a seat next to Vince and handed him a plate of food. 'Here you go, you haven't eaten yet and this is better than the other food.'
'You do know what I like, Adanar,' Vince said and he besieged the plate with a renewed vigour as the cook turned his attention to Enrico.
'G'morning too, did you get a call from the commander too?'
'Now, I haben't herbt a bing fwom de commandeb.' Realising that he would probably be easier to understand without food in his mouth, Vince swallowed. 'He must have contacted you first so you could wrap things up in the mess.' He then continued the siege of Fort Lotsoffood.

"Louis! My gun isn't loading smoothly. Do you have time to look at it?" He held the gun before he could answer.
"Did you try cleaning it?" He looked in the barrel. "It doesn't look really clean in here no. I would just shove a wet brush in here, it should help. If it doesn't, something could be stuck in the barrel, but that could take some time to fix. About a day I guess." He lowered the gun again. "It is important to clean your gun after every mission. I can't stress that enough. After every shot a little bit of gunpowder stays behind, slowing down every bullet you fire." He handed over the gun again.
