Rules

On Amaroth, different people gather to fantasize and write to their heart's content. But where people come together, problems of all kinds can arise. To avoid these, we have made some rules. These rules exists for the good of all of us and have to be followed at all times. We strongly recommend you to read these before becoming active here. Even if you don't know the rules, you are still expected to follow them.
The administrators, moderators and the old Council of Seven have the right to change these rules at all times, without prior notice.

A: General Rules

0. Terms

0.1: An individual is every separate person of human nature. People with multiple personalities are seen as one single individual.
0.2: A user is every individual who has a user account on Amaroth.
0.3: Amaroth is the name given to all webpages under the domain http://www.amaroth.net.
0.4: The staff is the collection of users who belong to the groups 'Administrators', 'Moderators' and ‘Council of Seven’ and are responsible for the order and decency on Amaroth.
0.5: A moderator is a member of the staff.

1. Liability

1.1: Every individual who registers on Amaroth is liable to follow these rules and is required to keep to them.
1.2: Bots are not seen as individuals and are not welcome on Amaroth. Only official search bots are allowed and even then only with permission of the staff.

2. Registration

2.1: Every individual is only allowed to have one (1) user account on Amaroth. Every second account will be removed by the staff.
2.2:Registered members are expected to be active on Amaroth. Accounts that have been inactive for longer than six (6) months can be removed without prior warning by the staff.
2.3: BAt registration a valid e-mail address has to be supplied in the correct location. The staff always has to be able to reach the user at this address. Accounts with an invalid e-mail address, or an address that is no longer in use, can be removed by the staff with no prior notice.
2.4: The supplied personal details have to be correct.
2.5: It is possible to hide the supplied e-mail address from members. The staff will at all times keep the privacy of their users in mind and will never share personal information without permission of the users in question.
2.6: User accounts with vulgar contents will be removed immediately.
2.7: Usernames can be changed after registration. Contact the staff for more information. Creating a second account to acquire a new username is forbidden.

3. Account

3.1: User profiles on Amaroth offer space for contact addresses like MSN, ICQ etc. Filling out these spaces is completely at the user’s own risk. The staff is not liable for spam or other problems. If these fields are filled out they count as personal details and as such are required to be correct.
3.2: User profiles on Amaroth offer space for a URL to a website of the user. Links to websites with vulgar contents (e.g. porn, violence) are not allowed and will be removed immediately.
3.3: All other fields that can be filled out may not have vulgar contents.

4. Signature

4.1: Every user profile has the possibility of having a signature. This signature will appear under every post of the user in question.
4.2: signature may have 255 characters maximum and may not contain vulgarity.
4.3: Signatures that are seen as too bright, too intense or too big by a staff member have to be changed immediately when asked.
4.4: A moderator has the right to demand users to turn off their signatures in certain topics, for example RPG’s, to improve legibility.
4.5: Signatures may not contain (moving) images. Exceptions to this rule are images approved by the staff. These exceptions can be found here.

5. Avatar

5.1: Every user profile has the possibility of having an avatar. These images serve to identify a user quickly. Choose an avatar that you feel fits you.
5.2: Avatars may not be bigger than 120 x 160 pixels. Avatars that are too big are not allowed.
5.3: Avatars may contain an animation which is not too busy. In case a moderator finds the animation annoying, he/she may ask the user to change the avatar. The user in question is then supposed to change the avatar. If he/she does not do this, a moderator has the right to remove the avatar.

6. Language

6.1: The original Amaroth is a Dutch site. This version of Amaroth is English. On this version, other languages are not allowed to be spoken. On the original website, Dutch is the only language allowed to be spoken. Exception to this rule is Eyenera, which was made especially for Amaroth.
6.2: To keep Amaroth accessible for everyone, communication will be conducted in standard english. Messages in dialect are not allowed.
6.3: If you can, use a spell check in order to prevent mistakes.

7. Behaviour and Respect

7.1: The staff assumes that every user can muster level-headed and adult behaviour. Every user is required to behave calm and rational.
7.2: Every user is required to show respect for other members, the staff and the rules.
7.3: Elke gebruiker heeft recht op vrijheid van mening en het uiten van gevoelens zonder daarvoor geminacht te worden. Men dient dit recht te respecteren, ook als men het niet eens is met de mening van een ander.
7.3: Every user has the right to express their opinion and show their feelings without being despised for it. One is required to respect this right, even if one does not agree with another one’s opinion.
7.4: Giving constructive criticism to another’s work is encouraged. However, one always has to give arguments as to why something is good or bad. Running someone to the ground and short reactions like “nice/ugly” are not allowed.
7.5: When receiving critique one needs to keep in mind that the given commentary is about the work and as such should not be taken personal.
7.6: Fights/rows should not be fought out on the forum itself. When problems arise a solution should be found through personal messages. When this turns out to be impossible, a moderator should be contacted.

8. Making topics

8.1: Before creating a new topic, the user is supposed to check if this subject already exists. If this is the case the existing topic should be used.
8.2: Topics always have to be placed in the correct forums and sub forums. Every forum and sub forum has a description to help with this.
8.3: The staff has the right to move topics at all times.
8.4: Every topic is required to have a title which summarises the contents. The staff has the right to change titles when deemed necessary.
8.5: Deviating from the subject is not allowed. If a user wants to talk about something else, he/she should do so in a new topic created for that specific purpose.

9. Placing reactions

9.1: When posting a reaction one is supposed to avoid unnecessary, below standard and/or wrong usage of smilies, punctuation and capitals. For instance, posts containing only a single smiley are not allowed.
9.2: Posting extremely large, small or brightly coloured characters or texts is not allowed.
9.3: Insulting another user is not allowed.
9.4: Advertising whichever product, website or personal project is not allowed. In case you really do want to place an advertisement, contact a moderator for more information on the possibilities.
9.5: Placing pornographic, vulgar and/or discriminating texts, images and/or links is strictly forbidden.
9.6: Double posting, e.g. posting two messages in a row in the same topic with no reaction from another user, is not allowed.
9.7: Posts which do not comply to rules 9.1 to 9.6 can be removed or edited by the staff at all times and without prior warning.

10. Privileges and Rights

10.1: Users get the same rights upon creating an account.
10.2: Users who are member of certain groups can have more rights and/or duties than others. Usually their status is the result of hard work and they have more than deserved this status.
10.3: The moderators decide who gets extra rights.
10.4: Users are not supposed to act as moderators. When one sees something which does not follow the rules, one is supposed to contact a moderator and report the crime in question.
10.5: If a user has a problem with a staff member he/she should contact the full staff. A hating topic about the staff member in question is strictly forbidden and can result in an immediate ban.

11. Copyright

11.1: Images, video’s and texts on Amaroth are protected by copyright. This is to be kept in mind at all times.
11.2: When using images and texts of others permission of the author is to be asked and received beforehand.
11.3: Publishing personal information of other users is not allowed.
11.4: Individuals who are not registered on Amaroth may not use the contents of this website for their own use.
11.5: Every user who performs an artistic work for Amaroth keeps the copyright to the work in question. However, this right has certain conditions, which are outlined and elaborated upon in 11.6 to 11.10.
11.6: Artistic work which is part of Amaroth first has to be posted on the forum and be approved by the staff.
11.7: The staff has the right to decline artistic work which does not fit inside Amaroth. This work will then have to be edited to be able to get a place on Amaroth.
11.8: It is forbidden to use and/or publish a work which is part of Amaroth without prior written permission of the whole staff and the original author, when one can be discerned.
11.9: If a user chooses not to take part in Amaroth anymore, Amaroth retains the right to use works created by him/her. Written and artistic work are included. This rule remains true when the user was removed for valid reasons.
11.10: Every publication of work belonging to Amaroth has to have the Amaroth logo, a link to the website and a thank-you notice to the whole Amaroth community.
11.11: The copyright on Amaroth as a whole belongs to the organisation and owners of Amaroth.
11.12: Amaroth follows the Dutch copyright rules. Additional rules may be in effect depending on the area where the original creator of a work lives. All copyright rules and laws in effect are supposed to be followed.

B: RPG Rules

1. Liability

1.1: Every user who wishes to take part in an RPG on Amaroth, or wishes to start one themselves, is liable to follow these rules.

2. Creating a character

2.1: Before a user can partake in an RPG, he/she has to create a character which is to be approved by the game leader. We have created structured character sheets to help the user create a character.
2.2: The RPG’s on Amaroth belong to the Fantasy genre. Characters that do not fit Amaroth can be refused at all times.
2.3: A character sheet may not contain vulgarity.

3. Posting in an RPG

3.1: Every RPG on Amaroth has the minimum length per post of 100 words. Posts which contain less words are seen as spam and may be removed without prior warning.
3.2: Some RPG’s demand more words per post than noted in 3.1. If this is the case rule 3.1 is overwritten and posts may be removed when the set minimum is not reached.
3.3: Posts which contain too many mistakes in language will have to be corrected when a moderator or game leader asks.
3.4: Posts containing vulgarity may be removed by the staff.
3.5: Posts which do not comply to the nature, history or background of Amaroth, will have to be edited.
3.6: Ideas in a RPG are not automatically canon. They have to be made into an article and approved by the creation team to be an official part of Amaroth.

4. Specific RPG-rules

4.1: Every RPG can have additional rules. These will then be given in a topic pertaining to the RPG in question. These rules will have to be followed by everyone wishing to partake in the RPG in question.

C: Creation rules

1. Liability

1.1: Every user who wishes to create or expand a part of Amaroth is liable to follow the creation rules.

2. Posting new creations

2.1: When posting a new part of Amaroth, the user is supposed to have done prior research. This means that he/she is sure the subject in question has not been created or written about yet.
2.2: New additions have to follow what has already been posted. This means that no conflicts in contents may arise. If this is the case, the oldest work is seen as the correct work. Only in rare exceptions and with permission of the staff can this rule be broken.
2.3: New additions will always be checked by a moderator. In case he/she sees the article in question as below standard, the writer of the article will be contacted and asked to change the article.
2.4: If a below standard article is not changed within a timeframe as set by the moderator, he/she is allowed to change the information him/herself or remove the article in question.

3. Modifying existing creations

1.1: Older articles may only be edited after permission of both the original author and the staff. In case the original author is no longer an active Amaroth user, the decision lies solely with the staff.

D: Wiki rules

1. Liability

1.1: Every Amaroth user who wishes to place or edit an article on the wiki, is liable to follow these rules.

2. Permission to post and edit

2.1: Only users of Amaroth have permission to place and edit articles. Changes by outsiders will be removed.
2.2: To place or edit an article on the wiki a user will have to log in to the wiki first. Changes made by anonymous users will be removed.
2.3: Before a user may place a new article, he/she needs to acquire permission of a moderator. This permission has to be renewed for every article.
2.4: If a user finds a mistake on the wiki he/she is allowed to change said mistake if, and only if, he/she is completely sure it is a mistake. When in doubt a moderator should be contacted.

3. Responsibility

3.1: The Amaroth wiki is an encyclopaedia which is maintained and edited on a voluntary basis. There is no guarantee that the wiki is completely correct and up-to-date.
3.2: Amaroth and her staff are not liable for expressions which the users place on the wiki, not any damages resulting from use of the Amaroth wiki or the information contained there in.
3.3: There is no contract, written or not written, between the users of the Amaroth wiki and her staff, pertaining the correctness of the wiki. There are no grounds on which the authors or staff can legally or otherwise be held responsible for the correctness of the information on the wiki.

4. Copyright

4.1: The Amaroth wiki is a part of Amaroth and thus follows the same rules as discussed in article 11.1 to 11.12 of the General Rules.
